Could the Green Canvas Be the Wall of the City?
The People, City and Concept Competition is an event dedicated to exploring innovative ideas in architecture and urban design. Open to participants from all disciplines, the competition fosters creativity and visionary solutions for the built environment. Our submission focused on a conceptual design for a specific type of wall system in Arak, referred to as “Jebhey-e-Gharbi-Sharghi” (Western and Eastern building facades). These facades, often neglected and left without thoughtful design due to gaps in Tehran's comprehensive urban plan, present a unique opportunity for transformation.
Our proposal introduced the integration of modular green walls, aiming to replace barren concrete or cement surfaces with lush, green façades. By doing so, the project sought to redefine the city’s visual identity and contribute to its environmental sustainability. Beyond enhancing the aesthetic quality of Arak, this approach addresses critical urban challenges such as air pollution, offering a sustainable and innovative solution for the city's development.
